Description

This method is used to determine the sulphite concentration in white sugar.

The colour of a sulphite/rosaniline complex formed is measured at 560 nm and compared to a standard curve previously prepared.

The method has Official (Reference) Status for white sugar.

The absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions for white sugars between 4.2 mg/kg and 27.63 mg/kg sulphite should be in the range of 0.72 mg/kg to 5.6 mg/kg and under reproducibility conditions in the range of 1.56 mg/kg to 24.19 mg/kg.
