The size and uniformity of raw sugar is determined by washing sugar crystals with alcohol and then drying.

The dried crystals are separated mechanically using wire-mesh sieves and the fractions on each weighed.

Mean Aperture (MA) and Coefficient of Variation (CV) is calculated as well as the fraction of Fines in g/100 g (quantity passing the 600 µm sieve).

The method has Tentative Status and therefore precision data is not yet available.
